Overview

Nelnet is a diversified and innovative company serving as a student loan servicer, professional services company, consumer loan originator and servicer, payments processor, renewable energy solutions provider, and K-12 and higher education expert. For over 40 years, Nelnet has been serving its customers, associates, and communities.

The company is hiring a Dev Sec Ops  Engineer responsible for provisioning, configuring, and monitoring infrastructure resources in our AWS cloud environment. We value Git Ops, Dev Ops, and Dev Sec Ops . We are building and maintaining a Cloud Application Platform team to accelerate migration from the datacenter and modernize. The full lifecycle of cloud systems (deployment, maintenance, retirement) should be managed via code.

The team maintains NIST security standards and understands Git Ops processes are key to meeting this challenge. As we move to the cloud, we plan to support a wide range of development teams adopting a container-first strategy.

Annual compensation range for this role is $110,000 - $150,000 depending on experience.

External candidates for this role must reside within a 30 mile radius of Lincoln, NE, Madison, WI, or Centennial, CO.

Nelnet supports a hybrid work environment with in-office and remote options. The standard hybrid schedule includes 24 hours of in-office work each week for associates within 30 miles of an office. This is subject to change based on manager discretion.

Job Responsibilities
  • Evaluate system performance, identify bottlenecks, develop solutions, and implement changes through the change management process.
  • Design, implement, and monitor enterprise-grade secure fault-tolerant infrastructure.
  • Define and evolve Build & Release best practices to support traceability and auditability of change.
  • Ensure continuous availability of Dev Ops tools supporting SCM and Release Management (Source Control, CI, and Change Management).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement enterprise features that enable higher developer productivity, environment monitoring, self-healing, and autonomous delivery teams.
  • Build infrastructure automation tools and frameworks.
  • Integrate newly developed and existing applications into cloud environments.
  • Automate deployment pipelines in a scalable, secure, and reliable manner.
  • Leverage application monitoring tools to troubleshoot and diagnose environment issues.
  • Foster a culture of automation to reduce repetitive work.
  • Work with Cloud Infrastructure and Security teams to ensure organizational best practices, policies, and procedures are followed.
  • Translate business requirements into technical requirements, and create design documents and technical specifications.
  • Provide post-implementation support including monitoring and debugging existing codebases.
  • Stay current with technology advancements and identify how new technologies can provide business solutions.
  • Automate security controls.
Experience
  • 1-3+ years of experience with AWS Dev Ops, cloud architecture, networking, deployment processes, and infrastructure as code tools.
  • 1-3+ years of experience in C#, REST Web Services, Angular/Node.js, and Power Shell.
  • Experience solving complex problems, creating algorithms, and handling challenging requirements.
  • Experience working in an agile, iterative environment.
  • Experience with source control (Git, branching, merging, etc.).
