Lincoln Fire and Rescue has an exciting new opening for a Systems Specialist III. This position delivers advanced, hands‑on technical expertise in the design, development, and support of the department’s computer hardware, software, and networked systems. The role plays a critical part in enabling departmental staff to perform at their best through reliable technology and responsive, high‑quality support.
Responsibilities include designing and implementing customized solutions built around the department’s primary commercial software platforms; supporting users in the effective use of both custom‑developed applications and standard office software; and providing on‑site maintenance and troubleshooting for computer hardware, peripherals, software, network connections, and related equipment. The position also involves diagnosing and resolving complex system and operational issues to ensure minimal downtime and optimal performance.
Work is performed under general supervision from an administrative supervisor and may include supervising or providing technical guidance and mentorship to subordinate staff. This role offers the opportunity to combine technical problem‑solving, user support, and system development in a dynamic, service‑focused environment.
What you’ll do:- Procure, install, maintain and track hardware
- Provide on‑site maintenance and troubleshooting for computer hardware and peripherals.
- Upgrade and troubleshoot internal computer hardware, diagnosis problems, and perform appropriate repairs
- Research and resolve software problems
- Act as a liaison between LFR and Information Services helpdesk as it pertains to replacement cycles and disposal
- Programs, maintains, and troubleshoots issues with the fire station alerting system
- Maintains the LFR managed information system to create reports and sequel databases.
Associate’s degree in computer science or related field and two years of experience in the use of computer equipment; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the desirable knowledge, abilities and skills.
