Job Description:
The Nebraska Department of Labor has a great opportunity to join our Information Technology (IT) team as an IT Applications Developer Sr. This position will work extensively with all aspects of our evolving Data Warehouse. As your experience, skills and familiarity with the business grow, you will touch all steps of the life cycle process to incorporate new data sources and provide beneficial data/statistics to our stakeholders to help improve business efficiencies and help eliminate suspected fraud.
This is an on-site position in Lincoln, Nebraska. All interviews will be conducted in-person. Please include a personalized cover letter with your application.

If the candidate selected doesn’t qualify for the IT Applications Developer Sr level, the position may be filled as an IT Applications Developer at a lower standard rate until qualifications are met for the senior level.

Examples of Work General duties:
Assists and mentors peers and subordinates
Consult with clients on application issues
Uses application development tools and utilities as appropriate
Systems Analysis:
Prepares the business problem definition
Performs the information analysis and organization
Accomplishes the information collection
Prepares the economic evaluation
Prepares the solution development and evaluation
System Design & Implementation:
Development of the functional design
Development of the technical design
Preparation of the system specifications
Development of the implementation plan Preparation of the support material
Providing on-going support
Logical Database Design (with minimal assistance):
Gathers requirements to build logical model for design analysis.
Creates logical views of business function.
Supports data management by creating and managing test data.
Supports data structure by creating and managing test data Gathers requirements for data definition
Physical Database Design (with minimal assistance):
Creates physical model as part of the physical design.
Create data access methods.
Creates sub-system facilities.
Creates IMS databases
Creates relational databases.
Programming & Testing:
Develop program code, assemble/compile code, and debug code Perform alpha/unit testing and participate in system program testing
Prepare program documentation

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
IT Applications Developer Sr: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science, information systems, mathematics, engineering or other related field and two years of experience, education, or training in coding computer applications; programming experience can be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
IT Applications Developer:
Experience, education, or training in coding computer applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
SQL Query Language, data visualization, critical thinking, problem solving, data cleansing, statistics, communication, attention to detail and ability to explain complex data in a simple, clear manner for non-technical stakeholders.
Experience with Data Warehouse software and tools.
Experience with SFTP data transfers and scripting functionality to schedule associated tasks. Solid SQL skills to quickly retrieve and provide requested information in a timely manner. More than 2 years directly responsible for data elements, data systems, and/or databases in a work environment. A working knowledge of State of Nebraska or other public service database systems and the ability to use multiple types of database reporting tools.

The selected candidate will be required to complete and pass a Federal Background Check, which includes being fingerprinted.
