Job DescriptionThe Data Analytics / Data Visualization Intern will support the DHHS data team by analyzing and interpreting data to help inform decision-making across the organization. This internship provides hands‑on experience working with modern data platforms, visualization tools, and large datasets to develop meaningful insights that support public service initiatives across Nebraska.
Key Responsibilities- Analyze and interpret datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights that support organizational decision-making
- Work with data consumers and subject matter experts (SMEs) to understand business rules and context behind available data
- Assist in validating data quality, accuracy, and completeness across multiple datasets
- Support the development and maintenance of dashboards and reports using data visualization tools
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver data solutions that meet business needs
- Monitor and troubleshoot issues in reports or dashboards
- Participate in Agile or project‑based activities such as team stand‑ups and sprint reviews
- Assist with compiling and presenting findings in a clear and meaningful way for stakeholders
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university (two‑to‑four‑year institution) OR recently graduated (within one year) from an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university (two‑to‑four‑year institution).
- Currently pursuing a degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, or a related field
- Basic knowledge of data analysis concepts and tools
- Familiarity with SQL or data querying concepts preferred
- Interest in data visualization and dashboard development
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical thinking skills
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with technical and non‑technical team members
- Hands‑on experience with modern data tools such as Databricks, Snowflake, Azure Data Factory, Power BI, and Tableau
- Experience working with real‑world data to support public sector decision‑making
- Exposure to cloud‑based data platforms and enterprise data environments
- Mentorship from experienced engineers and analysts
- Opportunities to develop both technical and professional skills while contributing to projects that impact the people of Nebraska
