Data Center Technician II (Weekend, Second Shift)

Responsibilities- Perform component-level repairs and troubleshooting on technical equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot operating systems, computer/server hardware, or networking protocols.
- Lift or move 50 lb (23 kg) of equipment and perform physically demanding tasks such as bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling, and lifting.
- Work non-standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, holidays, and shift-based schedules as required.
- Deploy and operate new data center infrastructure across projects or functions.
- Report issues and follow data center procedures to troubleshoot and diagnose straightforward issues with equipment or infrastructure.
- Maintain the security and integrity of data, track various forms of media to check for standard data security issues.
- Disassemble specific equipment that has reached its end-of-life via part replacement or maintenance in a team setting.
- Repair, fix, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, or infrastructure based on identified issues with defined solutions and limited guidance.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Completion of the online Google IT Support Professional Certificate program.
- 2 years of experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer/server hardware, or networking protocols.
- Experience performing component-level repairs and troubleshooting on IT equipment or in a similar role (e.g., Systems Administration, Network Deployment Engineer, Help Desk Technician).
- Experience working within a data center or network operation center environment.
- Ability to collaborate and partner with teams to overcome challenges, and adapt to changes in a dynamic work environment.
Google's Hardware Operations team monitors the state‑of‑the‑art physical infrastructure behind Google's powerful search technology. As an Operations Technician, you will install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and maintain hardware such as servers and their components, along with server software (Google's Linux cluster). You will also configure complex networking components including routers, hubs, bridges, switches, and networking protocols. You may participate or lead small project teams on larger installations and develop project contingency plans.
A typical day involves manual movement and installation of racks in a physically demanding environment, while working with cutting‑edge infrastructure.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. US: $78,000 – $111,000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits.
