Step into a vital role supporting student access and inclusion as a contract Sign Language Interpreter in Lincoln, NE. This position, based at an elementary school, focuses on providing communication access for young learners who are deaf or hard of hearing within a dynamic educational setting. The assignment runs from August 12, 2026, to May 20, 2027, and is exclusively onsite.
Flexible scheduling is available, with both full-day (7:45am-3:15pm) and afternoon-only (11:00am-3:15pm) shifts to accommodate your availability.
What were seeking:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience as a sign language interpreter in school settings preferred
- Will consider candidates with a Provisional license if EIPA score is under 4.0
- Ability to interpret effectively in an elementary classroom environment
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Commitment to confidentiality and ethical interpreting practices
Role responsibilities:
- Facilitate clear communication between students, teachers, and staff through sign language
- Adapt interpreting strategies to meet the developmental needs of elementary students
- Support student participation in both academic and social classroom activities
- Collaborate with educational teams to promote optimal learning conditions
- Maintain accurate, confidential records in line with school protocols
- Demonstrate flexibility and professionalism in a fast-paced academic setting
