Responsibilities- Provides legal counsel to the Division of Public Health on related legal matters and issues.
- This position has a direct impact on public safety, including, but not limited to, representation of the Department in discipline and emergency actions related to professional and individual health care licenses.
- Assisting licensing boards with related legal matters.
- Managing legal concerns related to surveillance and response to communicable diseases.
- Act as a liaison with the private legal community on complex legal issues and statutory ambiguity.
Minimum Qualifications: Three years of experience as an attorney practicing law and providing legal services such as preparing and trying cases, advising clients, and/or interpreting laws or administrative policies.
Legal Requirements: Must be admitted to the Nebraska Bar in accordance with Section 7-101, Nebraska Revised, Reissued Statutes of 1943.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience or familiarity with Public Health.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Ability to provide legal support to public health areas; interpret and apply statutes, case law, decisions, federal and state regulations, administrative rules and policies; effectively communicate with legal associates, other governmental employees, and the public; conduct legal research, knowledge of Westlaw; formulate legal opinions and recommendations; experience drafting and reviewing contracts, data‑sharing agreements, procurement and funds; knowledge of privacy laws (HIPAA) is a plus;
computer proficiency.
