Chief Procurement Officer

The Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) serves as the senior executive responsible for enterprise procurement and payment operations across the University of Nebraska system. The CPO provides strategic direction for the Procure-to-Pay (P2P) function and leads a center-led operating model focused on modernization, service excellence, risk management, operational efficiency, and measurable institutional value.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree
  • 10 years progressively responsible leadership experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, finance operations, shared services, or related functions.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience developing strategy and leading organizational transformation.
  • Strong financial, operational, and analytical acumen.
  • Prior supervisory experience, including work direction, performance feedback and staff development.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience, that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education, healthcare, public sector, research institutions, or similarly complex regulated environments.
  • Experience leading Enterprise Resource Planning, procurement technology, or shared services transformations.
  • Experience managing sourcing, contracting, supplier management, accounts payable, or related functions.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ideal candidate is an agile professional with strong interpersonal communication skills, flexibility and responsiveness; exhibits high ethical standards; proficient in managing time and competing priorities; responsive and committed to managing, supporting and motivating staff; committed to the ideals of a major public research university.
