Fleet Maintenance Manager

Heartland Staffing Solutions is proud to partner with a well-established, privately held construction and infrastructure company seeking an experienced Fleet Manager to lead its fleet, equipment, and maintenance operations.
This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for ensuring field teams have safe, reliable equipment where and when they need it
, while providing company leadership with accurate visibility into fleet costs, utilization, maintenance performance, and future equipment needs.
Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer
, the Fleet Manager will oversee fleet maintenance, preventative maintenance, equipment utilization, budgeting, asset lifecycle planning, equipment logistics, vendor relationships, shop operations, and facilities support.

What You'll LeadFleet Operations & Asset Management
- Lead the performance, reliability, utilization, and cost effectiveness of the company's vehicle and equipment fleet.
- Maintain accurate visibility into equipment location, condition, utilization, maintenance history, and operating cost
. - Ensure field teams have the equipment required to keep projects moving efficiently.
- Analyze fleet performance and make recommendations regarding repair, replacement, redistribution, rental, purchase, and disposal
. - Partner with executive and operational leadership on long-term fleet strategy and capital planning.
- Own the company's Preventative Maintenance Program for vehicles and equipment.
- Establish maintenance schedules, inspection standards, service procedures, and performance expectations.
- Ensure fleet assets remain safe, reliable, operational, and compliant.
- Oversee repair authorization and accurate service histories for fleet assets.
- Identify opportunities to reduce equipment downtime, improve reliability, and lower total maintenance costs.
- Lead and develop maintenance personnel while creating a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Develop reporting that gives leadership clear visibility into fleet costs, equipment utilization, downtime, reliability, and performance
. - Track maintenance costs, fuel usage, rental expenditures, utilization, and lifecycle costs.
- Build and manage the annual fleet maintenance and equipment replacement budget.
- Identify budget variances early and provide leadership with actionable recommendations.
- Evaluate total cost of ownership when recommending equipment purchases and replacements.
- Ensure equipment utilization is accurately allocated to projects to support effective job costing.
- Partner closely with project managers and field operations to anticipate equipment requirements.
- Coordinate equipment movement between projects and company facilities.
- Maintain visibility into equipment availability across active projects.
- Support equipment mobilization while minimizing downtime and project disruption.
- Identify underutilized assets and recommend redistribution or other appropriate action.
- Manage relationships with equipment dealers, repair providers, rental companies, and other fleet vendors.
- Negotiate pricing and service arrangements to improve cost and performance.
- Monitor rental expenditures and identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary rental costs.
- Evaluate when equipment ownership provides a better long-term value than continued rental.
- Ensure fleet operations comply with applicable DOT, OSHA, fleet safety, and company requirements
. - Partner with the Safety Department on fleet compliance and employee training.
- Support CDL training initiatives and equipment inspection programs.
- Maintain accurate fleet maintenance, inspection, and compliance records.
- Establish effective systems for receiving, stocking, labeling, tracking, and issuing maintenance and repair inventory.
