Job Description
The Field Representative works and leads campaigns to organize non-member State of Nebraska employees into union membership, conducts representation work such as grievance handling & collective bargaining matters, and helps build union capacity through teaching and empowering member leaders. Field Representatives are committed to helping workers win social and economic justice on the job through building a strong union. The successful candidate will begin in April 2026.
Job DutiesField Representatives are passionate organizers and are responsible for:
- Assisting on union organizing campaigns, including campaign start-up, committee building, assessments, developing literature, running meetings and workplace actions.
Field Representatives are fierce advocates for members and represent our members in:
- Contract negotiations
- Pre-disciplinary meetings
- Investigatory meetings
- Grievance handling from filing through
Field Representatives Build Our Capacity By:
- Recruiting, training, and assisting union
- Working with our coalition partners, lobbyists, other unions, and taking political
- Passionate advocate with a commitment to social and economic justice and grassroots
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- An ability to empathize with workers and move others to
- Leadership
- The ability and willingness to travel extensively across (Required)
- The ability and willingness to work long/irregular hours including nights and (Required)
- A valid driver’s license and (Required)
- Bachelor’s degree
Field Representatives are full-time field staff represented by the NAPE/AFSCME Staff Union (NASU) with a salary range based on experience starting at $55,000/year. Single coverage health insurance is provided at no cost, and generous vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays are offered.
