Job Summary and Responsibilities
To thrive in this role, you’ll heavily depend on your ability to multitask and react. You’ll clinically care for your patients—remaining focused and attentive as you continuously monitor them throughout your shift. You also serve as their advocate—supporting their best interests when they cannot. Your sound judgment during an emergency and rapid response will be critical and will put you on the radar for advancement.
Assesses, plans, and implements nursing care while ensuring patient comfort
Anticipates, identifies, and responds to informational and emotional needs of patients and families
Guides and directs healthcare personnel (i.e., CNAs) in caring for patients
Maintains knowledge of equipment setup, maintenance, and use (i.e., IV pumps, monitoring equipment, and drainage devices)
Utilizes safeguards such as IV pump drug library and monitor alarms with necessary equipment
Initiates emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patient from injury)
Assists with patient care duties/tasks (i.e., emptying drainage devices, ambulating, and hygiene)
Medical Surgical Oncology CHI Health St. Elizabeth is a 42‑bed Med/Surg unit. We care for diverse populations and diagnoses including Orthopedic, Trauma, Spine and Neuro surgery, Surgical and Medical Oncology, pulmonary, renal, GI, and cardiac care.
We have a rapidly growing oncology program and are committed to providing highly skilled care using the ONS curriculum and standards of practice. In addition, we provide post‑surgical care focused on pain management, early mobilization, and patient and family‑centered education, promoting excellent outcomes. Our care model emphasizes multidisciplinary teams for our patients, including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Dietetic Services, Palliative Care, and innovative nursing models that include LPN, C.N.A. and RN teams.
CompensationBase rate + shift differential
Incentives:
up to $15,000 sign‑on bonus, up to $10,000 education assistance (must have graduated within 5 years)
Tuition Reimbursement – $5,525 for full time and $2,750 for part time
Nurse Residency offered for all New Graduates –
Nurse Residency Cohorts:
- July 20th, 2026
- October 11th, 2026
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license that allows you to practice in our state
Graduate of an accredited nursing program
Experience as a Registered Nurse preferred
Basic Life Support (BLS) required
Specialty certification (ex: PCCN, CCRN, CNOR, CEN) preferred
Additional certification or licensure may be required for some specialty areas
$36.00 – $52.20 /hour
