Hands of Heartland is committed to supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). We seek a skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Nursing department as we grow and serve more individuals. The RN provides routine and emergency assessments and nursing care to ensure optimal health status for each individual we support. This position is based in Lincoln, NE and involves weekly travel to West Point, NE and other sites as needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Coordinate physician and health care services for people served
- Conduct health care assessments and write health care plans
- Provide facility training and orientation of new staff regarding healthcare procedures
- Provide on-call assistance to staff as needed
- Document accurately and timely on the appropriate forms
- Engage in health promotion, prevention, and education activities (e.g., assess for risky behaviors and support behavior change)
- Assess acute and chronic conditions that could result in rapid deterioration or life-threatening instability
- Facilitate admissions, transfers, and discharges of patients
- Manage the medication system, administer and document medication treatment
- Screen and monitor participants for medical problems and side effects
- Travel to other sites in Iowa and Nebraska weekly
- Other duties as assigned
- Must be licensed as an RN and able to work in Nebraska and Iowa
- Minimum 1 year of general nursing experience, preferably in IDD
- Valid driver's license, good driving record, and reliable transportation required
- Excellent time management skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff
- Highly organized with the ability to respond quickly to immediate needs
- Proficient with computer systems (Word, Excel, Outlook) to develop and maintain programs supporting quality assurance activities

Physical Requirements
- Good hearing and visual skills
- Ability to bend, stoop, sit, stand, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds
