Global Animal Science and Welfarein Lincoln, Nebraska.
Thepositionplaysa critical role intheday-to-day animal facility operations and portfolioexecution. This position will support the animaloperations in a research environment. Species of responsibility are companion animals, rodents, and livestock. The position requires the proper use and maintenance of all necessary equipment and followsappropriate techniquesasdeterminedby departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Institutional Policies.

The role of the Veterinary Assistant /Veterinary Technician as a part of Global Animal Science and Welfareincludes but is not limited to:
- Assisting the clinical veterinarian with all aspects of veterinary care
- Inventory control, including ordering and stocking supplies
- Medical case management
- Maintain recordsin accordance with institutional policies and external regulatory requirements (e.g., IACUC, USDA, AAALAC).
- Animal diet and weight management
- Animal preventive health management, scheduling, and administration
- Daily detailed observations and recording in medical records
- Animal husbandry
- Attendance at applicable meetings
- Attendance and participation in clinical rounds
- Working on miscellaneous projects for veterinary services
- Regulatory documentation as needed
- Dental and surgical procedures including all pre-operative preparation, peri-operative and post-operativecareand monitoring on animals
- Anesthetic monitoring
- Laboratory and veterinary equipment maintenance
- Communicating with animal and supply vendors as needed
- Training of technicians(animal care/research) and studentsonanimalhandling,observations, husbandry, and procedures
- Technical procedures may include but are not limitedto:blood draws on animal species used at this facility, urine collection, monitoring of vital signs, triage, IV catheterization, subcutaneous and intravenous fluid administration, euthanasia and necropsy support, diagnostic testing including in-house bloodwork, fecalexamsand urinalysis
- Study-specific procedures may include but are not limitedto:restraint,monitoring of animals, sedation or anesthesia support, blood collection
- This individual willbe required to be on-call weekends and/or holidays at a frequency that is dictated by the needs of Zoetis, typically 1 weekend a month.
Qualifications:
Minimum:
- Associate or bachelor'sdegree in veterinary technology, animal science, or a related field.
- 2to 3 years of experience working with animals in a clinical, research, or shelter environment.
- Knowledge of basic animal care, handling, and husbandry.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment andmaintaindetailed,accurate records.
- Commitment to animal welfare and adherence to ethical research standards.
Preferred:
- Certification as a Veterinary Technician (LVT, CVT, RVT) or eligibility for certification.
- Experience with livestock animals.
- Experience in a research setting.
- Knowledge of regulatory guidelines (IACUC, AWA, AAALAC standards).
- Strong hands-onexpertisewith research-related techniques (e.g.,handling, restraint,anesthesia, aseptictechniques, injections, sample collection).
Desired Attributes:
- Previous experience inworking with animal models inan animal research setting.
- Experience and success with multiple veterinary procedures in a research environment.
- Experience executing the program of veterinary care in AAALAC accredited programs
- Experience working in an environment that is routinely inspected by regulatory agencies (e.g.) USDA, FDA)
- Proven track recordof working well in a team setting.
- Flexibility, enthusiasm and adaptability within the work environment, anda track recordof successfully working in a fast-paced setting involving multiple projects and tasks.
