Job Overview

As a Sushi Clerk, this position will be responsible for filling customer orders, handling food safely, ordering and receiving products, ensuring orders are correct, labeling, dating, and putting product away, and providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service.

Reporting Relations: Accountable and reports to District Store Director;
Store Manager;
Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home;
Food Service Director;
Hy-Chi Department Manager;
Assistant Hy-Chi Department Manager;
Service Managers.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions.
  • Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner.
  • Attempts to learn customers’ names and address them by name.
  • Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing items out of reach, loading/unloading heavy items, noting customer suggestions, and performing tasks to enhance the shopping experience.
  • Answers the telephone promptly and provides service to callers, including taking orders.
  • Takes orders at the Chinese Express counter.
  • Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
  • Reviews orders for the day.
  • Practices proper sanitation procedures and keeps the work area clean and neat.
  • Reviews the status and appearance of the food for freshness.
  • Ensures adequate food supply and follows a production list.
  • Anticipates product needs for the department daily.
  • Prepares, finishes, and replenishes product as necessary.
  • Pulls product from cooler/freezer for preparation.
  • Checks in product and puts product away.
  • Removes trash in a timely manner.
  • Adheres to company policies and store guidelines.
  • Reports to work on schedule and on time.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Washes dishes as necessary.
  • Orders product and supplies as necessary.
  • Prices product for customers as necessary.
  • Delivers orders as needed.
  • Assists in other areas of the store as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics
  • Ability to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions with few variables.
  • Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction; copy figures, count, and record.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions; write identifying information; request supplies orally or in writing.
Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent;
Food Safety Certification; six months or more of similar or related experience.

Physical Requirements
  • Exert up to 50 pounds occasionally; up to 20 pounds frequently; 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
  • Perform tasks such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, repetitive motions.
  • Vision from 20 inches or less to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, and field of vision.
Working Conditions

Continual exposure to raw fish, flour, dust, noise, temperature extremes, occasional cleaning chemicals/solvents; fast-paced high pressure environment.
