The Landscape Evolution and Luminescence Geochronology Laboratory at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln studies how landscapes evolve and change due to environmental and anthropogenic drivers. Much of the lab’s work involves dating sediments or artifacts with luminescence dating methods.

ResponsibilitiesAs a Geology Research Technician
, you will:
- Process sediment samples and analyze sediment and soil samples in the laboratory, including dating sediments with optically-stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating and particle size analysis using a laser diffraction particle size analyzer.
- Subsample sediment and soil cores for analysis.
- Assist with generating materials for publications, including geologic maps and other manuscripts.
This position is part‑time, 20 hours per week and is classified as a Research Technician III.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, Soil Science, Environmental Science, or related field plus 1 year experience in a research laboratory. Additional years of completed, relevant education or experience may substitute on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Experience in a research laboratory and using analytical equipment.
- Experience with basic word processing and use of spreadsheets.
- Basic understanding of chemistry and laboratory procedures.
The following qualifications are preferred, but not required:
- Master's degree in Earth Sciences, Soil Science or Environmental Science.
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required. Subject to DOT approved pre‑employment & random testing for alcohol and controlled substances.
