Field Engineer, Scientist and Geologist
Our Omaha office is seeking a Field Engineer, Scientist and Geologist to join our Team in the Environmental Department. The Omaha office has a diverse client base in both public and private sectors, working in the commercial, industrial, government and institutional markets. As an environmental field engineer, scientist, or geologist, you will work outdoors during all seasons conducting environmental media (soil, water, soil gas, etc.)
sampling and remediation system operation and maintenance. A basic understanding of mechanical (pumps, compressors, blowers, etc.) and electrical control systems and strong mechanical aptitude are essential to the job, as is routine out‑of‑town travel.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Conduct environmental site investigations, assessments, and surveys to sample, measure, and analyze air, water, material, and soil.
- Conduct well sampling.
- Perform monitoring and repairs to environmental remediation systems.
- Collaborate with environmental engineering, scientist, and geologist staff on projects.
- Participate in various aspects of environmental assessment and remediation projects, growing from assistance to mastery of mitigation strategies and compliance with regulations.
- Support projects such as Phase I/II site assessments, tank closure assessments, soil and groundwater remediation.
- Conduct site visits, field observations, and field data collection.
- Travel out of town on a routine basis (approximately 75% of the typical work week). Weekend work may be required occasionally.
- Conduct water, soil, and air sampling.
- Maintain a basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects; participate in pre‑task planning and report any safety concerns to management.
- Maintain quality standards on all projects.
- Evaluate routine laboratory and field data for inclusion in reports.
- Prepare reports or sections of larger reports.
- Consult with other technical personnel and supervisors on routine and less complex projects.
- Write routine proposals and assist in the preparation of more complex proposals.
- Engage in client contact pertaining to specific projects or tasks as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geology, environmental science, or a related science field with one year of related experience; alternatively, five years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable violation history.
- Ability to travel out of town on a routine basis.
- Strong organization skills.
- OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER training, or ability to obtain it upon employment.
- DOT medical card, or ability to obtain it upon employment.
- Ability to operate 1/2‑ton to 1‑ton trucks and occasionally tow a trailer.
