Third Shift Security Guard
Location:
Lincoln, NE
Hiring Rate: $17.680 per hour
Responsibilities- Provide security for the State Capitol Building and other state buildings in the Lincoln area.
- Work independently to protect state property, respond to emergencies and alarms, and assist state employees and the public.
- Perform vehicle and foot patrols of interior and exterior of buildings, monitor fire alarms, use an electronic guard tour system, and enforce building and parking rules and regulations.
- Operate audio‑visual monitoring devices, monitor the computer security system, and control after‑hours building access by employees and visitors.
- Maintain a summary record of all shift activities, complaints, and reports to supervisors; provide detailed incident reports.
- Work the third shift, 11:00PM–7:00AM, with Sunday and Monday off; shifts may also include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required for 24‑hour coverage.
- Walk approximately five (5) miles during each shift, climb stairs, and maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- No specific education, training, or experience is required for entry to this class.
- Preferred:
One year of security experience and Microsoft Office proficiency. - Certification in first aid and CPR is required, or must be obtained within the first six months of employment.
- Valid driver’s license and completion of an approved defensive driving class are required for state vehicle use.
- Ability to walk five (5) miles per shift, climb stairs, and work various shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Must meet U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services employment eligibility requirements by completing an I‑9 form.
- Candidates will undergo an extensive background screening, including a Personal History Questionnaire, fingerprint check, and criminal history review. Applicants must be free of felony convictions and cannot have ongoing criminal investigations or indictments.
- Effective communication in person, by telephone, computer, and email with state employees, government officials, visitors, and the public.
- Remain calm and handle difficult or irate individuals during emergency or adverse situations.
- Follow instructions, read and understand signage and guidelines, and record incident details accurately.
- Operate security equipment and vehicles used to perform assigned duties.
- Write clear, detailed, computer‑generated incident reports.
- Demonstrate good judgment, sound decision‑making skills, and strong written and verbal communication.
- Self‑starter with good interpersonal skills.
