The Nebraska State Penitentiary is seeking Maintenance Specialists to perform daily and routine maintenance throughout our facility. Additional $3.00/hour facility differential for hours worked. Job stability and excellent benefits are provided.
Responsibilities- Maintain the physical plant with repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Perform skilled carpentry work in major renovation and construction of buildings, structures; construct, alter, maintain, and repair buildings, floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, walls, ceilings, doors, windows, screens, furniture, and cabinets.
- Schedule and perform specialized preventive maintenance and repairs for equipment, systems, and machinery to ensure necessary inspection, adjustment, and replacement of parts.
- Supervise inmates working in the maintenance department.
- Maintain accurate inventory of all stock and commonly used maintenance parts.
- Maintain accurate tool logs and an extensive array of tools, following all policies and procedures related to tool control and purchasing of tools, equipment, and parts.
- Handle maintenance‑related purchases and statement reconciliation.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, industrial engineering, HVAC, welding, or another building trade.
- Experience in building maintenance, a mechanical trade, or performing safety inspections, investigations, or training may be substituted for education on a year‑for‑year basis as determined appropriate by the agency.
- Applicants must pass a medical exam and a drug test, followed by completion of the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
