Job Overview
Ready to move your career forward? As a Technician at Penske, you’ll perform preventative maintenance and repairs of all levels on the newest and best maintained fleet of vehicles in the industry. You will help our customers keep their vehicles in shape and on the road. As a Technician II you’ll be trusted to work independently while doing major and minor repairs, performing road tests to diagnose problems and completing maintenance tasks.
You set an example and informally mentor new technicians while continuing to grow your skills from learning from other experienced techs and your manager.
- Making sure vehicles are maintained and safe for our customers
- Doing preventive maintenance services on truck and trailer equipment with little or no supervision and in a timely manner
- Repairing and troubleshooting components such as engines, transmissions, differentials, turbochargers, fuel system components, etc.
- Keeping your work area clean and safe
- Using Penske’s tools and technologies to log, research and complete repairs, including basic vehicle diagnostics
- Learning new skills through Penske’s technician training
- Working on other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor
- 3 years of practical experience with vehicle maintenance required
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred
- Specialized training and experience in the diagnosis/troubleshooting of major components (engines, transmissions, differentials), OEM training courses, ASE Certification, and 608/609 certifications (preferred)
- Experienced using tools of the trade (including diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools)
- Valid driver’s license required
- Ability to solve problems
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work well as part of a team
- Willing to work in non‑climate‑controlled conditions
- Basic computer skills
- Must understand and comply with specific instructions, guidelines, rules, regulations, or other information established by Penske management
- Must perform all work adhering to DOT, OSHA, and Penske safety and maintenance policies; including correct selection and use of appropriate tools, PPE, machine guarding, and best safety practices
- Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function
- Position requires driving Penske and customer vehicles, regulated by DOT; requires current driver qualification file with annual MVR check, DOT physical, safety performance history, and drug screening; CDL holders subject to FMCSA clearinghouse review
- Willingness to travel within the district, work required schedule and specific location, complete Penske employment application, background screening, and drug screening
- Moving frequently, standing, walking, climbing, bending, and sitting for extended periods
- Use hands routinely to grasp, reach, touch, handle, feel, and operate tools or controls
- Work safely at heights using ladders and elevated platforms
- Work in all weather conditions
- Be able to see and hear to navigate the workplace safely
- Regularly lift up to 50 lbs / 23 kg, occasionally up to 100 lbs / 45 kg, and push/pull truck tires exceeding 100 lbs
Monday - Friday 7am-3:30pm
Shift Differentials:
Second shift start after 11am eligible for $2.50 per hour; third shift start after 9pm eligible for $3.50 per hour.
