Apprentice & Journeyman Electrician
This role focuses on installing, commissioning, and troubleshooting building automation and HVAC control systems in commercial facilities. You will work with Building Management Systems, Building Automation Systems, Direct Digital Controls, and related instrumentation to ensure reliable and efficient operation of HVAC and electrical systems. The position combines hands-on electrical work with controls integration, using mechanical and electrical plans and control drawings on active construction sites.
Responsibilities
- Install cable, wire, EMT conduit, control devices, actuators, and HVAC automation controllers on commercial projects.
- Install and configure control systems by following job-specific mechanical and electrical plans and detailed control drawings.
- Perform startup and commissioning activities for building automation and HVAC control systems under supervision.
- Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
- Pull and terminate wires and cables for power, control, and communication circuits related to building automation systems.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and control diagrams to plan and execute installations accurately.
- Install, bend, and run conduit (including EMT) to meet project specifications and applicable codes.
- Assist with the setup and integration of building automation software and control devices for HVAC systems.
- Work safely on commercial construction sites, following all site rules and safety procedures.
- Use basic and advanced electrical tools and test equipment to verify proper operation of installed systems.
Essential Skills
- Hands-on experience with electrical installation, including wiring, conduit, and lighting circuits.
- Ability to install and work with Building Management Systems (BMS) and Building Automation Systems (BAS).
- Familiarity with Direct Digital Controls (DDC) and HVAC automation controllers.
- Experience with instrumentation and controls (I&C) related to HVAC and building systems.
- Proficiency in bending and installing EMT conduit in commercial environments.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical and electrical plans, and control drawings.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical, control, and building automation systems.
- Comfort working on commercial construction sites with active trades and evolving project conditions.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to submit to a motor vehicle record (MVR) check.
- Reliable transportation to travel to and from various commercial jobsites.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Two-year technical degree in HVAC, Electrical, Electro-Mechanical, Electronics, or Construction.
- Experience with building automation and controls, including building automation software.
- Experience in construction environments, particularly commercial projects.
- Knowledge of instrumentation used in building automation and HVAC control systems.
- Ability to collaborate with supervisors, technicians, and other trades on-site.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Work Environment
This position is based on commercial jobsites, working primarily Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. You will operate in active construction environments, coordinating with multiple trades and adapting to changing site conditions. The role is hands-on and field-based, involving regular use of electrical tools, test equipment, ladders, and lifts as needed. Work centers on building automation, HVAC controls, and electrical installations in commercial buildings, with an emphasis on safety, professionalism, and adherence to site protocols.
