FTTP Field Service Technician

Overview

Traveling Fiber Drop Technician responsible for installing and maintaining fiber-to-the-premise (FTTP) networks across varied sites, traveling 100% of the time.

• Select routes and place/bury buried drops for residential fiber plant.
• Operate equipment needed to install buried drops.
• Perform yard and landscaping restoration.
• Climb ladders for aerial drop work (up to 35 feet).
• Choose materials for construction of fiber distribution system.
• Secure necessary locates through the 1‑Call system before work begins.
• Document construction and provide daily and weekly production reports to the Supervisor.
• Provide a safe work environment by enforcing safety regulations and company policies.
• Operate and monitor company‑owned vehicle and equipment, keeping it clean and inspected daily.
• Perform restoration work and other duties as assigned.
• Accept periodic assignments that may involve travel away from the immediate home office area.
• Lift up to 100 pounds and conduct other physical tasks as required.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred physical labor experience.
• Basic knowledge of Excel, Microsoft Word and willingness to learn Smartsheets.
• Strong communication skills with internal and external customers, contractors, and employees.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends.
• Self‑motivated, able to complete daily tasks without constant supervision.
• Minimum age 21.
• Valid driver’s license; DOT requirement for cross‑state travel.
• Can pull a trailer with equipment and perform general maintenance on vehicle and trailer.
• Proficient with DOT inspection sheet and DOT physical.
• Able to operate power tools, hand tools, and heavy walk‑behind machinery.
• Capable of working outdoors in extreme weather, and in environments that require crawling, bending, kneeling, and ladder climbs.
• Capable of carrying tools and equipment, operating a computer, and reading a measuring tape.
• Can work solo or as part of a team.
• Available to travel 100% of the time and may be required to work outside the home office area for extended periods.

• Operate a company vehicle and maintain its daily condition.
• Hook up, back up, and operate a trailer with equipment loaded.
• Keep truck and trailer clean and organized.
• Climb ladders up to 35 feet.
• Run heavy walk‑behind machinery.
• Read and apply a measuring tape.
• Utilize personal cell phone for business purposes.
• Operate a lift truck (preferred, not required).

• Lift objects up to 100 lbs.
• Remain standing on feet for extended periods.
• Ascend/descend ladders.
• Crouch, crawl, kneel, stand.
• Work outdoors in extreme weather.
• Weight restrictions for ladder (less than 350 lbs including equipment) and bucket (less than 250 lbs including equipment).
