Position Summary:
General Maintenance Worker
- Denney Federal Building
- Lincoln, Nebraska
This position performs general maintenance of buildings and equipment requiring practical skill and knowledge (but not proficiency) in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical work, and key card locks.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:- Replaces electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors.
- Replaces filters, belts, etc.
- Use plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings.
- Repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets
- Painting structures and equipment
- Repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks
- Replacing damaged paneling and floor tiles
- Hanging doors and installing door locks; assists with lock outs, battery changes, and rekeying cards.
- Replacing broken windowpanes
- Performs general maintenance on equipment and machinery.
- Flexible scheduling to include on-call rotations, occasional overtime, and some weekend work.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.
Education and/or
Experience:
- Minimum requirements for this position include a High School Diploma or equivalent GED plus a minimum of three (3) years general mechanical, electrical, carpentry, or maintenance experience within the past 4 years. Completion of a technical / vocational school in general maintenance skills or comparable training such as military/industry, experience may be an equivalent substitute. A valid Georgia Driver’s License and ability to maintain military gate pass access are required.
Experience performing preventative maintenance on equipment and machinery. Experience responding to and completing repairs on Demand Maintenance Orders (DMOs).
Critical Factors for Success:
- Knowledge of building repair and maintenance.
- Knowledge of general mechanical, electrical and/or carpentry.
- Knowledge of drywall, wood framing, concrete, and other building materials.
- Knowledge of safety procedures.
- Skill in operation of hand and power tools.
- Skill in establishing priorities and organizing work.
- Skill in public and interpersonal relations.
- Skill in oral and written communications.
Communication
Skills:
Must have the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, managers, and staff members. Ability to write reports. Must have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, fellow employees, and customers.
Reasoning Ability:Must be able to read and interpret various information to ensure procedures are followed.
