Job DescriptionThe Nebraska Department of Revenue is seeking an experienced Senior IT Application Developer proficient in Java, SQL Server, and Oracle to build and enhance software in a team environment. Under limited supervision, the role designs, develops, and maintains applications that meet business requirements and collaborates with cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑quality software solutions.
Job Duties- Work collaboratively with end users and stakeholders to define system requirements; perform information analysis and organization.
- Estimate costs of potential application development and modification projects.
- Create implementation plans and prepare system documentation.
- Provide ongoing support and maintenance for console and web applications.
- Gather requirements for data definitions; develop and debug program code; perform alpha/unit testing and participate in system program testing.
- Design, build, and maintain logical/physical data models using relational database principles.
- Consult with end users, peers, and management on application issues; assist and mentor peers and subordinates.
- Provide guidance to less experienced coworkers; show initiative; demonstrate good judgment.
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science, information systems, mathematics, engineering or other related field and two years of experience, education, or training in coding computer applications; programming experience may be substituted for education on a year‑for‑year basis.
Preferred Qualifications- Proficiency in Java programming language and frameworks.
- Understanding of software development principles and best practices.

- Experience with SQL Server and Oracle database development.
- Oracle Application Express (APEX) Experience.
- Knowledge of Nebraska Tax Programs.
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).

- System documentation.
- Database design and management principles.
- Troubleshooting and debugging large complex computer applications.
