- Operate tow trucks or light service vehicles to provide Emergency Road Service (ERS) to AAA members.
- Receive call information from the Customer Interaction Center and respond to the scene of disablement.
- Identify the problem, verify possession of a valid AAA membership card, and provide services including tire changes, fuel delivery, battery testing, battery jump‑starts, battery installations, minor mechanical adjustments, and lockout service in accordance with established procedures.
- Arrange towing of the vehicle or tow it safely when it cannot be driven, following the tow manual instructions.
- Conduct pre‑ and post‑trip DOT checklists, documenting vehicle issues or maintenance requirements.
- Track and record all daily activities by completing call logs, vehicle logs, receipts, and other required documentation using a tablet or electronic device.
- Maintain a safe and acceptable driving record and DOT certification, reporting any infraction to management.
- Maintain acceptable performance goals and scores related to member satisfaction, calls per hour, and safety.
- Provide support at special events such as parades, travel shows, car care, or public relations events as requested.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Valid state driver's license with minimal driving infractions/incidents.
- For Illinois employees, a valid Illinois C‑Non CDL driver's license.
- Completion of drug screening, MVR, criminal background check, and DOT health screenings (pre‑employment and ongoing).
- Customer Service experience with the ability to communicate effectively with customers and meet/exceed expectations.
- Safely operate a full‑size or mini service van or tow truck and applicable service equipment.
- Lift material weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Utilize GPS and maps to locate member breakdown locations.
- Read and interpret AAA emergency road service rules and benefits.
- Communicate effectively with others in a work environment and with the public.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Work independently, contacting leadership when necessary for direction or support.
- Perform basic mathematic calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Successfully complete AAA training programs.
- Support team efforts to achieve departmental performance goals.
- Experience servicing vehicles including providing fuel, testing batteries, replacing batteries, performing jump‑starts, providing lockout service, and changing/inflating flat tires.
- Prior tow truck driver or roadside service experience, operating wheel lift, flatbed, dolly towing equipment, and full‑size or mini service vehicle.
- Commercial driving experience.
Provides roadside service to AAA members, working primarily out of office with frequent exposure to road hazards and temperature extremes. Less than 5% of time is spent in a temperature‑controlled office environment.
