• Teach general music education classes to grades 5‑6 during the school day; optionally support beginner band 1–2 times weekly after school.
• Create and implement engaging lessons that balance music literacy, vocal development, instrumental instruction, movement, and composition.
• Align lessons with national and state music standards.
• Work independently and collaboratively with school‑based and district teams to expand the music program.
• Organize and host annual performances and/or concerts to showcase scholars’ work.
• Establish a respectful and supportive classroom environment.
• Implement routines and procedures for smooth classroom operation and efficient use of time.
• Manage scholar behavior to promote high engagement with content.
• Model expressive language and clear communication of expectations, directions, and explanations.
• Use questions, prompts, and discussion techniques to challenge cognition, advance high‑level thinking, and promote metacognition.
• Design learning tasks that require complex thinking with appropriate scaffolding.
• Utilize formative and summative assessments to guide instruction, monitor learning, provide feedback, and promote self‑monitoring.

• Bachelor’s degree required with certification in music education or ability to obtain emergency certification by the Rhode Island Department of Education.
• Minimum two years teaching experience in a diverse public‑school setting preferred.
• Proficiency in vocal performance or a musical instrument and experience leading both choral and instrumental programs strongly preferred.
• Bilingual candidates preferred.
• Must hold an appropriate Rhode Island teacher certification by date of hire.
