We’re looking for an experienced Transportation Project Manager to join our growing Rhode Island team.

This is an opportunity to lead impactful transportation projects, build strong client relationships, mentor talented professionals, and play an important role in growing BETA’s presence throughout Rhode Island and New England.

You’ll lead projects from planning and design through permitting, bidding, and construction, while managing scope, budgets, schedules, quality, and client expectations. Your day may include leading project meetings, reviewing roadway designs, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, meeting with RIDOT or municipal clients, visiting project sites, resolving technical challenges, and mentoring engineers and designers.

You’ll work on a variety of projects, including:

  • Highway and roadway improvements
  • Complete streets and multimodal transportation
  • Intersection and corridor improvements
  • Sidewalk and ADA improvements
  • Stormwater and drainage
  • Pavement design and rehabilitation
  • Municipal and DOT projects
  • Construction administration and support
Responsibilities
  • Lead transportation projects from planning and conceptual design through final design, bidding, and construction
  • Develop and manage project scope, budgets, schedules, staffing, and deliverables
  • Direct multidisciplinary project teams, coordinating engineers, designers, environmental professionals, and other technical specialists
  • Provide technical leadership for roadway and highway design, including geometric design, grading, drainage, traffic control, ADA compliance, and pavement design
  • Review plans, specifications, calculations, reports, and other technical deliverables to ensure accuracy, quality, and constructability
  • Ensure projects comply with applicable RIDOT, AASHTO, FHWA, MUTCD, and other regulatory and design standards
  • Coordinate permitting, agency approvals, and regulatory requirements throughout project development
  • Support construction administration and resolve design, field, and constructability issues as they arise
  • Lead QA/QC efforts and maintain BETA’s standards for technical excellence
  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for clients, municipalities, agencies, contractors, and other project stakeholders
  • Represent BETA at client meetings, public presentations, agency coordination meetings, and project reviews
  • Mentor and develop junior and mid-level staff, providing technical guidance and opportunities for professional growth
  • Support proposal development, interviews, and strategic business development initiatives
  • Cultivate new and existing client relationships and identify opportunities to expand BETA’s transportation services throughout Rhode Island and New England
  • Collaborate with BETA’s New England offices to leverage regional expertise and resources to deliver successful projects

Preferred location is BETA’s Lincoln, RI office. Candidates should have flexibility to work from our other office locations. BETA also offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing employees to request working remotely up to 2 days per week.

Requirements Required Experience/Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • 8 to 15+ years of related engineering experience in highway design, stormwater management, ADA compliance, and roadway construction practices
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, Civil3D, and ArcGIS/Pro
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with AASHTO, RIDOT/MassDOT/ConnDOT design standards, MUTCD
  • Experience with RIDEM and CRMC permitting regulations
  • Strong technical aptitude and an eagerness to learn
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
