Description:

Seeking candidate to fill leave of absence for 3-5 Special Education LBS position at Half Day School.

Job Summary:

LBS (special education) teacher that will serve the needs of special education children in District 103. Focus will include instructional classes (parallel curriculum), resource support and provision of accommodations, modifications and in-class support in general education.

Qualifications:
  • Must hold a valid Illinois Professional Educator License.
  • LBS 1 endorsement Pre Kindergartenthrough Grade 9 required
  • Training in the Wilson Reading System preferred
  • Highly qualified in reading.and math.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities :
  • Will develop, implement and monitor Individualized Education Program, Functional Analysis of Behavior and Behavior Intervention Plan. Plans will be developed on a yearly basis, implemented daily and monitored regularly.
  • Will coordinate services, IEP minutes, goal updates and communication with home and among team members.
  • Understands the formal and informal educational assessment process and uses various assessment strategies, including data gathering, to support the continuous development of all students.
  • Will recognize student needs and as appropriate seek the assistance of other professional staff helping students solve, emotional, physical and academic difficulties.
  • Attend and facilitate parent/teacher conferences, team meetings, and IEP meetings.
  • Initiate ongoing communication about student's needs and upcoming meetings as often as needed and offer prompt responses to parents.
  • Participate in ongoing collaboration and articulation with administrators, general education teachers, support staff, and paraprofessionals in regards to the needs of students and offer prompt responses.
  • In the case of more severely impacted students, anticipate upcoming events and begin planning well in advance to help ensure the safest and most meaningful experiences possible.
  • Attend building and district meetings to increase articulation between schools in regards to overall programming.
  • Assist in problem solving and development of instruction for both special education and general education students.
  • Communicate appropriately with students in regards to their expectations and goals, as well as, communicating strategies for working towards expectations and goals.
  • Obtain and demonstrate knowledge of general education curriculum including grade level expectations and state standards.
  • Consult and or collaborate with general education teachers in the areas of assessment, curriculum adaptation, behavior management and monitoring student progress.
  • Monitor progress of students and disabilities using specified program procedures and make instructional changes when indicated.
  • Generate any and all appropriate IEP paperwork including progress reports at appropriate times.
  • Develop, implement and monitor specialized, research-based instruction programs in basic skills areas to meet students unique needs.
  • Establish developmentally appropriate instructional and behavioral expectations for students and communicate those to students and their families.
  • Assess students' developmental, cognitive and social needs and provide developmentally appropriate instruction to meet those needs.
  • Create lessons and learning environments that are safe, respectful, and interesting as well as multicultural/gender and ability fair/developmentally appropriate.
  • Select, adapt and individualize materials appropriate for diverse student populations and skill level.
