Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineer, Systems Engineer
As an Advanced Hardware Engineer, you will be part of the PMC Engineering group, designing and sustaining portable gas detectors used in critical safety applications. You will contribute to all phases of product development— from concept and circuit design to compliance testing, manufacturability, and production support— while collaborating closely with interdisciplinary teams in Mechanical, Firmware, and Systems Engineering.
You will report directly to the Director of Engineering and work out of our Lincolnshire, IL location on an onsite work schedule.
Responsibilities- Design and sustain portable gas detectors as part of the PMC Engineering group.
- Develop electronics systems: schematic design, circuit simulation, detailed design; work with regulatory agencies, perform verification testing, and interface with cross‑functional teams.
- Coordinate with interdisciplinary engineers (Mechanical, Firmware, ECAD, Evaluation) for product design and risk identification.
- Perform design analysis (stress, tolerance, error budgeting, timing, power) and provide technical expertise for design trade‑offs.
- Design the electrical architecture of SIL2 IEC 61508 products, considering usability, functionality, regulation, and compliance.
- Work with operations and supply chain to ensure manufacturability; participate in production test equipment development and design transfer activities.
- Develop proof‑of‑concept firmware and data‑acquisition software applications; generate technical reports and documentation.
- Maintain high‑quality documentation as required by the quality organization.
- Perform hands‑on lab work as required.
- Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics).
- Minimum 2 years of hands‑on experience with microprocessor‑based systems, including analog & digital circuit design, power‑supply design, and sensor interfacing.
- Experience supporting at least two stages of a full product development lifecycle (design, validation, compliance testing, launch) with familiarity in EMI troubleshooting and regulatory standards such as IEC 60601.
- Proficiency with data‑acquisition and analysis tools (LabVIEW, Python, MATLAB, or Excel) and knowledge of communication protocols such as USB, SPI, and I²C.
- Understanding of optical spectroscopy and laser‑spectroscopy‑based gas detection.
- Knowledge of Six Sigma principles in product design and development.
- Experience with analog sensor signal‑conditioning circuits integrated with microcontrollers or processors.
- Awareness of IEC 61508 / IEC 61511 standards for product design (e.g., PFD / HFT).
- ATEX / flame‑proof design experience.
- Intrinsic Safety (IS) protection techniques for hazardous environments.
- Exposure to additional communication protocols such as DDR, SGMII, HDMI, Wi‑Fi, BLE.
- Hands‑on experience with error budgeting and statistical data analysis using Minitab.
Candidate must be a U.S. Person, defined as a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or person with protected status under asylum or refugee status.
