In the role of LADO, you will be responsible for managing allegations against individuals who work or volunteer with children, including those who hold inherent authority due to the nature of their role and regular contact with children. You will liaise with employers to ensure children are safeguarded and will work with police, children’s social care, employers and other involved professionals/regulatory bodies to assess risk.

The LADO does not conduct investigations, but oversees and directs them to ensure thoroughness, timeliness and fairness and will challenge delay in case progress where necessary.

Distinctive Responsibilities – LADO
  • Allegation Management:
    Lead and coordinate responses to allegations against adults working with children, ensuring compliance with Working Together to Safeguard Children, KCSIE and local procedures.
  • Complex Case Management meetings/Allegation Management Meetings:
    Lead and facilitate multi‑agency meetings to coordinate responses to allegations against individuals working with children, ensuring that investigations are initiated when thresholds are met and safeguarding actions are clearly defined.
  • Risk Assessment and Planning:
    Advise on interim safeguarding measures, risk management, and suitability decisions for professionals under investigation.
  • Interface with HR and Legal:
    Work closely with HR, legal services, and regulatory bodies to support disciplinary and safeguarding processes.
  • Data and Trends Analysis:
    Monitor and analyse allegation data to identify patterns, inform training needs, and contribute to strategic safeguarding planning.
  • Policy Development:
    Support the development and review of safer recruitment and safeguarding policies across agencies.
  • Challenge delay or drift: in case progression and elevate concerns where necessary.
  • Challenge practice/behaviours/outcomes: through a combination of professional authority, multi‑agency collaboration, and systematic oversight.
