Nature of Work (Goal):
The Success Lab & MTSS Support Teacher Assistant independently supports small groups of middle school students in grades 6–8 under the supervision of the principal or designated supervisor. Using school- and district-provided frameworks, lesson plans, and resources, the employee manages instruction and behavior with a focus on academic recovery, goal-setting, executive functioning, and life skills. Responsibilities may also include recruiting and supporting student mentors and providing transitional support to former students during their first semester of high school.
Within the MTSS scope of the position, the employee provides one-on-one and small-group support that may include progress monitoring, data collection, and implementation of structured interventions using school and district resources.
Reports to: School Principal
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Must pass a drug test, background check, and TB test prior to employment
- Meet one of the following Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requirements:
- Hold an Associate's degree or higher in any area; OR
- Complete 30 semester hours of college coursework in any area; OR
- Earn passing scores on the Work Keys Test (offered at CVCC):

- Working knowledge of effective methods for working with students at the assigned grade level
- Skill to operate common audiovisual, technological, and office equipment
- Ability to follow minimally detailed written and oral instructions without constant supervision
- Ability to lift and move up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs constantly
- Must comply with all rules and regulations governing the safe operation of a school bus; safely transport students to and from school as required (bus training provided)
Job Functions and Duties: Includes, but are not limited, to the following:
Instructional Support
- Delivers the provided classroom framework and pacing, using responsive decision making to support youth
- Provide one-on-one and small group instruction
- Reinforce lessons, monitor student work, check and correct students' work in progress
- Encourage and praise student achievement
- Demonstrate instructional activities and keep students on task
- Prepare instructional materials and visual aids, and arrange classroom furnishings and equipment
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, students, teachers, staff, and administrators
Student Supervision and Support
- Support students with self‑help skills, personal care, and social development
- Monitor and supervise student behavior in the classroom and other locations; redirect and correct misbehavior through approved methods, applying recognition, reward, and consequences impartially and consistently
