Permanent / full-time (10 months) / 7.5 hours per day / benefit eligible

Dual Employment position – must meet requirements of both positions

Reports To: Classroom Teacher/Principal/Assistant Principal

Salary / FLSA / Non-Exempt

Grade 56N / Teacher Assistant ($16.48 - $22.23 per hour); plus local supplement (if applicable)

Grade 51B / Sub Bus Driver ($15.00 per hour)

The salary for this position is based upon the successful applicant’s years of service in the NC State Retirement System in the same or similar position. Experience outside of this system is not recognized for pay purposes. For current Lincoln County School employees, this position will be paid according to the current Lincoln County Schools’ pay scale.

Nature of Work

Under general supervision, a teacher assistant will perform a variety of technical and clerical tasks in assisting a teacher. Employee may perform a wide range of tasks in order to support the efforts of the teacher, meet the needs of all students, and ensure the provision of quality instruction for all students. Employee provides one-on-one assistance with academics, behavioral problems, and personal and self-helps skills and may lead small group activities.

Employee assists teacher with general housekeeping, clerical duties, and personal care needs of students.

Qualifications / Requirements

• Requirements:
  All PRE-K teacher assistants must have a high school diploma or GED and must hold, or be working toward, a minimum of an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development (ECE/CD). Teacher assistants working toward the Associate Degree shall make progress by completing a minimum of six (6) documented semester hours per year. Teacher assistants employed by public schools must meet the employment requirements outlined by the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and have the following: six (6) documented semester hours of coursework in early childhood education, two (2) years of work experience in an early childhood setting, and the Early Childhood Credential EDU 119.
• Valid driver’s license and driving record that qualifies employee to obtain and maintain a valid NCCDL and drive a bus as directed by supervisor.
• Must comply with all rules and regulations governing the safe operation of a school bus
• Working knowledge of effective methods of working with students
• Working knowledge of the core subjects at the grade level to which employment assignment is made
• Some knowledge of the school organization and its communit
• Some knowledge of expected behavior of students and basic characteristics of ages and stage
• Skill necessary to operate audiovisual and technological equipment and common office machines
• Skill to make learning aids which will strengthen lesson plans
• Ability to comprehend the purpose of teacher-designed strategies as a fulfillment of the instructional objective
• Ability to discern significant student behavior and refer this to the supervisor
• Ability to impart information to the student’s level of comprehension
• Ability to apply, impartially and consistently, proper methods of recognition, reward and punishment
• Ability to solve independently most minor problems
• Ability to follow minimally detailed written and oral instructions without constant supervision
