Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, or his/her designee, the Day Camp Supervisor is responsible for leading, organizing, and supervising an assigned camp and its daily activities. This position ensures a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for campers and staff. The Day Camp Supervisor serves as a primary role model for camp counselors and helps develop a strong, team-oriented staff culture.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise an assigned camp independently or as part of a team.
  • Plan, organize, and lead daily camp activities while always ensuring camper and staff safety.
  • Oversee daily administrative tasks, including attendance, participant sign-in/out procedures, supply and equipment requests, camper data forms, and field trip permission slips.
  • Support camp counselors in implementing behavior management strategies.
  • Assist with summer camp training and seasonal onboarding.
  • Prepare the camp environment each day and ensure materials and supplies are set up properly.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe camp environment (e.g., ensuring equipment is put away, trash is disposed of, and hazards are addressed promptly).
  • Communicate frequently and professionally with parents/guardians regarding camper updates, concerns, discipline, and general information.
  • Serve as an encouraging and positive role model for participants and staff.
  • Work effectively with children of varying abilities and coordinate with M-NASR.
  • Support the inventory, organization, and distribution of camp supplies.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and positive customer service when interacting with the public.
  • Handle complaints or questions in a calm, solutions-orientated manner.
  • Provide recommendations and observations to the Recreation Supervisor.
  • Follow all Village polices, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The wage range for the position is $17-$18. This position is seasonal and does not qualify for benefits.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position includes supervision of camp counselors. The Day Camp Supervisor must demonstrate effective leadership and possess a working knowledge of personnel management principles.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

This position requires a completed or in-progress bachelor’s degree and one to two years of related experience. CPR, AED, First Aid, Epi-Pen, and Glucagon Certifications required prior to the start of camp.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and email communication.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to compose and prepare reports and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITIES

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Ability to work with children
  • Ability to prioritize duties and complete tasks within allotted planning hours
  • Understanding of the principles, practices, and objectives of Parks and Recreation administration and recreation programming
  • Ability to deal with the public tactfully and courteously
