Aquatic Center Coordinators and Recreation Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY

Under supervision of the Aquatic Center Coordinators and Recreation Supervisor, the Aquatic Center Manager performs professional duties in ensuring effective performance of facility functions. Managers oversee the overall facility operation when on-site. Managers assist with training and mentoring of staff, and evaluate staff at the end of the season, interact frequently with patrons to ensure positive experiences, assist front line staff in enforcing facility policies, and test and record pool chemicals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the on-site manager of the overall Aquatic Center in conjunction with and in the absence of the Aquatic Center Coordinators and Recreation Supervisor
  • Lead staff through professional attitude and superior job performance
  • Ensure that all lifeguards are fully competent in performing water rescue procedures
  • Coordinate with aquatic center staff in ensuring safety of patrons in and around the pools, monitoring swimmers, and enforcing all safety rules
  • Address customer requests and complaints in a courteous and thorough manner, involving the Aquatic Center Coordinator or Recreation Supervisor as needed
  • Prevent accidents by eliminating hazards and hazardous behavior
  • Provide Head Lifeguards and other staff as needed with details about any special events, parties, and aquatic center rentals so staff can plan accordingly, and communicate schedule changes in a timely manner
  • Assign duties to staff in all areas, including operations, front desk, and lifeguard stations
  • Assist the Head Lifeguards in determining the positioning and rotation of lifeguards to meet the facility/program/personnel/patron needs
  • Respond to emergency action plan activation
  • Fill out appropriate documentation including incident/accident reports, lifeguard observations, and other documentation as assigned
  • Recommend improvements to Aquatic Center Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor
  • Maintain a high level of proficiency, including Lifeguarding and CPR skills.
  • Fully understand and support the Head Lifeguard, Lifeguard, Guest Services Attendant, and Operations Attendant positions
  • Maintain inventory and organization of emergency and first aid supplies
  • Report to all scheduled manager trainings and staff meetings
  • Comply with all Village policies, protocols, and procedures
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The wage range for this position is $18.50-$19.50 per hour. This position is seasonal and does not qualify for benefits.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position requires management responsibilities of a supervisory nature. Incumbents must be proficient in basic concepts relating to personnel management.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be Red Cross Certified in Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Community First Aid and Safety
  • This position requires a completed or in‑progress high school diploma; some college preferred
  • Must be available to work at least one weekend day
  • Must be able to attend all in‑service training sessions as required

This position requires the following.

  • Must be able to maintain a clear line of communication with supervisors
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques
  • Ability to pass pre‑employment physical skills evaluation as stipulated by the department
  • Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork, such as Accident Reports and Incident Reports
  • Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures
  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office Suite and Civic Rec
  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures
LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to properly fill out incident and accident reports as well be able to communicate in an emergency situation.
