SummaryThe Project Accountant assists in project-related accounting. They are responsible to help identify and report all the financial risks associated with projects. They work closely with the Project Managers and Controller to report the financial performance, and cost and budget targets each month for assigned projects.
Duties- Perform general ledger accounting activities related to assigned projects
- Set up and maintain projects in the accounting/ERP system
- Manage project accounting including budgets, forecasting, cost tracking, and change order processing
- Monitor project costs and compare actuals to budgets; analyze variances and identify financial risks
- Prepare and maintain work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and support revenue recognition
- Create and process customer billings in accordance with contract terms
- Track retainage, unbilled revenue, and deferred revenue as applicable
- Collaborate with project managers to validate percent complete, cost projections, and billing accuracy
- Prepare project financial reports and provide analysis to management and operations teams
- Support month-end and year-end close activities related to project accounting
- Assist with project closeout, including final billings and cost reconciliation
- Ensure compliance with internal accounting policies and contractual requirements
- Maintain accurate documentation to support audits and internal reviews
- Identify opportunities to improve project accounting processes and controls
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Has bachelor's degree in accounting.
- Understands and applies principles of financial risk management.
- Has excellent knowledge of basic accounting functions.
- Knows how to use Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
- Is a great communicator.
- Demonstrates the ability to work individually or as part of a team.
- Meets deadlines.
- Has integrity: maintains normal standards of ethics, conduct, and organizational policies in job-related activities.
- Experience with Vista software is a plus, but not required.
