S&L Incorporated is a multi-million dollar heavy civil excavation prime contractor operating primarily throughout Salt Lake and Utah Counties.
Duties and Responsibilities of an Excavation Superintendent-Looking for High Level to work at our Federal Road Project up Millcreek Canyon in Salt Lake City
- Provide support to the successful completion of construction and engineering work.
- Know how to operate and maintain all heavy equipment including earth movers, bulldozers, front-end loaders, track hoes, loaders, graders, scrapers, skid steers and other related equipment including small tools.
- Teach employees to perform daily safety, maintenance or servicing checks to ensure proper functioning of all equipment.
- Responsible for safe slopes on excavations and proper barricading.
- Locate utilities and other buried lines prior to digging.
- Load, cut, grade, excavate and compact dirt and aggregates according to contract specifications.
Maintain a Daily Field Note Log that documents hours worked and tasks performed of every employee on your Team.
- Approve time reports of all employees on your Team.
- Document all Proposed Change Orders and get approval for work to be performed by on site customer.
- Conduct weekly safety meetings with all employees and ensure entire Team works in adherence to safe practices, procedures, work site or traffic laws.
- Understand operating budget for each Job to which you are assigned and operate within budget guidelines.
- Communicate and negotiate with customers and inspectors on a daily basis.
- Responsible for managing and directing multiple project/job teams through communication, coordination and follow through. A Superintendent is a seasoned manager that has a firm grasp of managing multiple jobs at multiple job sites.
- Work with PMs and Superintendents to establish work plans
- Communicate task planning to crew(s)
- Organize crew and equipment transport and use
- Communicate manpower, trucking and mechanical needs
- Participate in field training, safety briefings and staff planning
- Represent S&L with owners, inspectors, vendors and subcontractors
- Schedule inspections, testing, materials, survey/layout needs timely
- Maintain daily and weekly reports
4+yrs experience in leadership roles. Autodesk Build / Plan Grid experience is a plus,
Busy Busy Timekeeping experience is a plus,
Topcon GPS rover and machine controls experience is a plus. Be comfortable with tech
nology for communication and project control. Read plans, specs, submittals, take-off sheets. Understand survey control and construction staking.
Ability to read and interpret blueprint drawings. Examine plans, soils and geological reports, project specification, project bid guidelines, manuals, directives, addendums and RFI’s for issues related to contract scope and work required
- Thorough knowledge of Heavy equipment operation
- General knowledge in the creation, management and approval of the change order process.
- Maintenance and repair of heavy and power-driven equipment
- Knowledge of Program Management software is a plus
- GPS skill knowledge or ability to learn to operate equipment with GPS.
- Workplace safety practices for heavy construction related jobs.
- Knowledge of aggregate sizes and classifications.
- Knowledge of loading operations, cutting, grading and compacting of dirt.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred. Previous heavy equipment operation experience in Grader is preferred.
- Must have physical ability to operate in a strenuous and dangerous work environmental
- Possess physical strength to operate heavy and power-driven equipment
- Ability to communicate and interact both verbally and written
- A keen eye to details and good decision making skills
- Manage to handle emergency situations, work pressure and stress
Ability to complete work projects on time and in an effective manner - Possess a deep analytical understanding and problem solving skills
- Can work independently with minimum supervision
- Ability to work well with and to lead others in a Team environment. Ability to adapt to new and different job sites and Team members.
