Description
Better Body foods & Nutrition is looking for a Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) Director responsible for ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of compliance, safety, and quality. The FSQA Director is a people leader responsible for managing the Quality team in the Utah manufacturing and warehouse sites as well as influencing company wide food safety initiatives.

- Lead and develop a team of managers to ensure company policies and procedures meet regulatory, industry, and company expectations and requirements
- Oversee FSQ systems including audit readiness, program validation, regulatory compliance on manufacturing floor and product labels.
- Drive continuous improvement in food safety and quality processes, measure performance against key performance indicators, and support the building of a strong food safety culture across departments
- Collaborate cross functionally with other members of leadership in all departments of the company to ensure standards and policies effectively achieve company expectations.
- Hold members of the FSQA team accountable and drive continuous improvement paired with company incentives
- Remain informed and up to date on current events and issues in the food industry such as changing regulations, and emerging trends as they relate to food safety and quality
- Drives Quality team to create fit-for-purpose and risk-based quality principles to ensure processes, controls, and documentation are appropriate, efficient, and aligned with both scientific intent and regulatory requirements
- Coach and develop quality team members, deliver training, and communicate quality updates to leadership and stakeholders
- Training and competency management within the department, ensuring personnel are appropriately trained, qualified, and assessed.
- Coordinate inspection readiness for sponsor/customer audits and support health authority or accrediting/certification body inspections. Direct and train team members on audit responsibilities
- Foster an environment of continuous improvement throughout the organization by participating in cross-departmental programs that drive quality-at-the-source; including the design, development, and implementation of quality awareness and training programs
- Direct and advise in supplier qualification and management procedures
- Site Risk Management
- Additional duties as assigned by supervisor
- 7+ years experience in HACCP and GFSI based food safety systems and 5+ years in a leadership role of a GFSI certified site
- Must have a GFSI or other relevant food safety experience (i.e. SQF, PCQI, BRC, ISO, or FSSC). SQF and PCQI certifications are preferred but not mandatory.
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or other related fields.
- Proficient with Microsoft tools and prior experience with data analytics and making data driven decisions
- Proven ability to interpret and apply GFSI and US Regulatory standards effectively to ensure compliant, fit-for purpose, and risk-based quality processes
- In-depth knowledge of FDA food labeling regulations including USDA Organic certification. Familiarity with 3rd party label certifications including Non-GMO Project, Gluten-Free, and Kosher
- Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Strong collaborative skills and capability to enforce company policy and standards to educate other team and leadership members
- Ability to clearly communicate complex quality principles to diverse stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to influence change by leveraging credibility, data, and strategic relationships to drive adoption of quality initiatives across the organization
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing methodologies.
