The Anoka County Parks mission is to positively impact the quality of life in Anoka County by providing parks, outdoor recreation, and leisure services for the public. Our mission encompasses the protection of the natural environment, improving the health of citizens, and supporting a strong local economy. The department has an immediate opening for Seasonal Recreation Program Specialist (Environmental Education) who will perform various duties.
Some of the critical responsibilities of this position include plan and deliver environmental education programs that align with the program delivery goals and desired outcomes of the Parks Department.
This is a seasonal, non-exempt, on-site position. Interviews will take place as applications are received for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.
Pay & Benefits- Salary: $18.00 to $18.50 per hour.

- This position will work at Wargo Nature Center, located at 7701 Main St, Lino Lakes, MN.
- Expected work hours are varied, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, for an average of 32 hours per week. This may include extended hours on weekends and holidays as required.
- Anticipated duration of this assignment is April through October, or June through August.
- Plan and deliver environmental education programs that align with the program delivery goals and desired outcomes of the Parks Department.
- Report on program outcomes by tracking participation, effectiveness, and efficiency.
- Assist in curriculum preparation and provide input on current trends and popular activities to increase program relevance and resident interest.
- Carry out established roles for supervising camper health and enforcing camp safety regulations.
- Actively participate in staff training, meetings, and supervisory sessions.
- Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, facilities, and the environment.
- Guide other day camp staff in being successful in programming and assignment completion.
- Participate in openings, closings, all programs, etc. as scheduled.
- Review paperwork to make sure it is complete. Support schedule creation for programs.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed
- Requires accreditation from a technical school or applicable trades program.
- In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
- Must have valid driver s license and vehicle available for business use.
- Successfully pass driver’s license background check.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed
- Environmental education programming and day camp experience.
- Degree in environmental education, outdoor recreation, biology, natural history, or related field.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Indoor and outdoor county worksites in all weather conditions depending on assignment.
- Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades and brightness.
- Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds.
- Assignments require several hours of varied physical activity in addition to viewing a computer screen, sitting at a desk, or walking/standing.
