Team Overview

We are looking for you to join our team as a Staff Component Engineer based out of Linthicum, MD.

What You’ll Get To Do

The successful candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Parts and Components Management Team within the Design Life-Cycle Engineering Department. You will work in a dynamic, customer‑focused environment, engaging suppliers, internal and external customers, and other design engineers.

Roles And Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review all data necessary for Program Design Team and/or Configuration Control Board (CCB) review, including generation/review of applicable screening and qualification test plans.
  • Analyze and select alternates for electronic components on Bills of Material (BOM) to resolve obsolescence, long lead‑time issues, and drive parts standardization.
  • Assist with DMS/EOL identification and notification.
  • Document program‑specific part requirements for all components used on the program.
  • Lead new Component Request approvals and Component Drawing development as appropriate.
  • Support destructive physical analysis (DPA) reports, failure analysis, and problem resolution for any parts within the commodity.
  • Serve as gate keeper for commodity components, ensuring environmental application, authenticity, and traceability.
  • Chair a Commodity Team responsible for reviewing all components within the commodity for production design use, including commercial, industry, military, and space grade components.
  • Use project management skills to manage multiple priorities and cross‑functional groups to meet part requirements and program deadlines.
  • Lead or support across all programs when necessary.
  • Participate in major program milestones such as Design Reviews.

This position is contingent upon the ability to obtain an active DoD Secret Clearance or the successful transfer of an active DoD Secret Clearance.

Basic Qualifications For a Staff Component Engineer

Bachelor’s Degree with 12 years of experience, master’s degree with 10 years of experience, Ph.D. with 8 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Experience with component selection, qualification, and application in electronic or mechanical systems.
  • Experience working as a Component Engineer with semiconductor and RF‑related components.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A current/active DoD Secret clearance.
  • Experience developing Electronic Part specifications, particularly using military or industry requirements and specifications.
  • Experience with Siemens Teamcenter or similar PLM systems.
  • Regulatory compliance knowledge (Specialty Metals, Counterfeit Part Prevention, Conflict Minerals).
  • Working knowledge of industry/military standards such as JEDEC, Mil-STD-883.
  • Experience and ability to work with cross‑functional teams such as:
    • Design Engineering
    • Manufacturing & Production Engineering
    • Quality Engineering
    • Supply Chain and Procurement

Primary Level Salary Range: $ – $. The range is a general guideline; the final offer considers scope and responsibilities, candidate experience, education, skills, and market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses. Annual bonuses reward individual contribution and company results. Vice presidents or directors may qualify for long‑term incentives.
