Overview

The HVAC Equipment Systems Application Engineer at Johnson Controls supports pre‑ and post‑sales activities for building systems and equipment projects. The role focuses on system configuration, equipment selection, bidding, pricing, and detailed engineering submittals to ensure profitable and on‑time execution aligned with customer expectations.

• Assist with pre‑ and post‑sales activities, including system configuration validation, HVAC equipment/controls selection, bidding, application, and pricing.
• Receive coaching and direction from account executives and sales leadership on pre‑sale needs and expectations.
• Execute post‑sales activities, ensuring profitable, accurate, on‑time equipment delivery within scope and customer expectations.
• Develop and provide detailed engineering information and submittals for design, configuration, operating, and installation requirements to customers, consultants, service personnel, and subcontractors.
• Balance customer satisfaction and project financial results with assigned sales teams.
• Provide technical support, equipment selection, and limited estimating support to Account Executives during design or proposal phases.
• Assist in developing customers’ conceptual solutions and support detailed estimating projects for Account Executives to finalize and present to clients.
• Validate assumptions during proposal and development phases; prepare detailed cost estimates and scope of work for projects.
• Assist in preparing proposals, quote letters, special quote generation, RFQ, and RFI issuance.
• Manage the profit & loss (P&L) of all assigned projects, including equipment order execution and backlog schedule forecasting up to two years ahead.
• Verify approval submittals, configuration acceptance by installation contractors prior to equipment fabrication.
• Evaluate contractual scope, client‑issued bulletins, field directives, and scheduling changes; coordinate accordingly.
• Prepare change order proposals with the sales team.
• Coordinate factory equipment orders to ensure technical and commercial compliance with contract documents and site requirements.
• Generate purchase orders, select orders, and track delivery of materials and equipment for assigned projects.
• Communicate project progress and financials to management.
• Review and process invoices for payment related to projects; address billing and collection issues with the operations team.
• Conduct customer site visits to ensure equipment delivery meets Johnson Controls and customer compliance.
• Maintain long‑term relationships with customers, consultants, prime contractors, and subcontractors; attend essential meetings.

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
• Experience with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Visio).
• Basic Windows operating system environment.
• Knowledge of thermodynamics.
• Preferred HVAC equipment knowledge.
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite and AutoCAD.

Hiring Salary Range: $68,000 – $93,000, based on education, experience, skills, and market alignment.
