This is a cross-functional operational leadership role that provides oversight of both clinical and non-clinical functions of the Home Infusion and Ambulatory Infusion Services (AIS) business with direct reports in the operations team, including Navigators and Billing Coordinators. This role ensures optimal operational performance across medication access, referral growth, financial processes, and system integration. A key function of this role is facilitating the systemwide Medication Access Team, improving provider and patient satisfaction, preventing referral leakage, and executing the department’s strategic plan.
Responsibilities- Directly supervises Navigators and Ambulatory Coordinators.
- Provides direction, coaching, and performance evaluations; manages workload distribution, workflow optimization, and cross-coverage planning to ensure service continuity.
- Fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional development across the infusion service line.
- Leads the systemwide Medication Access Team to ensure timely and equitable access to therapies across all UMMS entities.
- Partners with providers, payors, and internal stakeholders to streamline workflows for authorizations, financial clearance, and referrals.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, and payer requirements.
- Develops and implements strategies to increase referrals, reduce leakage, and expand service lines.
- Monitors operational and financial metrics, recommending and executing process improvements.
- Aligns departmental initiatives with UMMS’s mission and vision and collaborates with leadership to evaluate and optimize business opportunities.
- Serves as liaison between clinical providers, patients, and internal staff to ensure satisfaction and timely service delivery.
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, Nursing, Pharmacy, or related field
- Two (2) years experience in home infusion, specialty pharmacy, or payer/provider relations
- Two (2) years of leadership or supervisory experience
- Master’s or other advanced degree in healthcare administration, or equivalent
- Demonstrates knowledge of various insurance coverage (i.e. Medicaid, HMOs) including UMMS insurance partners.
- Advanced knowledge of billing, payer requirements, and referral workflows.
- PC Literate, with ability to enter and/or retrieve demographic, financial, and/or patient information on an online registration system.
- Ability to establish and maintain courteous and effective relationships that foster quality customer service, and demonstrate sensitivity and awareness of customer needs; when dealing with patients/visitors, co‑workers and healthcare staff.
- Ability to use resourcefulness and problem‑solving skills when handling telephone and in‑person inquiries or when required to resolve patient scheduling issues.
- Ability to work independently and respond effectively under stress.
- Ability to prioritize and manage numerous tasks in different stages of completion.
- Ability to observe and apply relevant hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Complies with patient right to privacy in handling personal information in accordance with the Privacy Rule (under Title II of the Act) of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), ensuring the security and privacy of each patient’s health care information.
