This is not a remote role - expect to be on site.
Position SummaryThe Neonatal Escalation Safety Telemetry (NEST) Program is a 24/7 remote monitoring center staffed by experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurses. The NEST RN remotely monitors fetal heart rate tracings for obstetric patients across all UMMS hospitals. Working under the direction of the Nurse Manager, this role collaborates with bedside teams to identify concerning fetal patterns, escalate findings, and support patient safety.
The RN also serves as a clinical resource and mentor while promoting evidence‑based nursing practice.
- Monitor and interpret fetal heart rate tracings remotely.
- Identify abnormalities and elevate concerns to bedside nursing teams using established protocols.
- Validate findings using the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Serve as a clinical resource for Labor & Delivery nurses.
- Support evidence‑based practice and patient safety initiatives.
- Mentor new nurses and support staff education.
- Participate in quality improvement, peer review, and professional development activities.
- Assist with unit operations and support collaboration across L&D units.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland.
- Labor & Delivery nursing experience required.
- Strong fetal monitoring interpretation skills.
- Experience with electronic fetal monitoring systems and EMR.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
- BSN required.
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in Maryland (or eligible through Compact agreements).
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification required.
- Minimum of 5 years labor and delivery experience required.
- Demonstrated evidence of professional growth and development, e.g., current specialty certification, recent degree or certificate completion (post‑baccalaureate or higher, ≥12 credits) within past 24 months, formal teaching within past 24 months, membership on a professional association board/committee within past 24 months, peer reviewer for a professional journal (≥2/year), or maintenance of 20 continuing education hours/24 months. Proof of attendance required.
Pay Range: $47.79 - $56.18 per hour.
