Job Summary

The EHS Compliance Specialist plays a key role in ensuring organizational adherence to environmental, health, and safety regulations while supporting a culture of continuous improvement. The position is responsible for monitoring compliance with federal, state, and local requirements, maintaining accurate documentation, and partnering with operational teams to implement best‑practice safety programs. The specialist conducts audits, leads training initiatives, and provides expert guidance to reduce risk, improve workplace safety, and support sustainable operational performance.

Ideal candidates are detail‑oriented professionals with strong analytical skills, a proactive approach to problem‑solving, and the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. The role requires a strong job‑site presence (approximately 80% of the workday/week).

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain a consistent onsite presence and engage with crews during active work.
  • Conduct daily EHS observations and document safe/unsafe behaviors and conditions.
  • Participate in pre-task planning, JSAs, and safety huddles/toolbox talks.
  • Deliver, and track EHS training programs for employees, supervisors, and contractors (e.g., hazard communication, PPE, lockout/tagout, emergency response).
  • Promote a strong safety culture by providing coaching, communication, and hands‑on support for operational teams.
  • Monitor, interpret, and apply federal, state, and local EHS regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOT, state‑specific rules).
  • Maintain compliance programs, permits, records, and reports to ensure full regulatory adherence.
  • Prepare and submit required regulatory filings, inspections, and documentation within mandated timelines.
  • Support development and updates to Site Safety Plans, Activity Hazard Analyses (AHA), and Job Safety Analyses (JSA).
  • Perform routine jobsite inspections and document findings, corrective actions, and closeout status.
  • Support audits of EHS documentation, training records, certifications, and compliance logs.
  • Assist with industrial hygiene (IH) sampling and monitoring where required (training‑dependent).
  • Participate in incident investigations and root‑cause analysis; ensure thorough reporting and corrective action tracking.
  • Support development, testing, and maintenance of emergency action and response plans.
  • Serve as a resource during emergency events or compliance‑related issues.
  • Assist with incident/near‑miss investigations, documentation, and reporting.
  • Support Return‑to‑Work / Light Duty coordination for injured employees in partnership with site leadership and workers' compensation coordinator.
  • Identify patterns and recurring hazards and recommend prevention actions.
  • Correct unsafe conditions within assigned authority and document actions taken.
  • Escalate safety violations through the appropriate supervisory/management chain of command per policy.
