Foreman Responsibilities
- Skilled and technical work in constructing, installing, and repairing traffic signal systems, highway lighting, and other transportation-related systems.
- Supervision and training of all subordinate employees assigned to the project.
- Assist superintendent with material ordering, scheduling, and utility location.
- Complete and turn in required personal and project paperwork.
- Maintain a neat and professional appearance.
- Communicate with customers and other contractors.
- Follow requirements for utility location and permits.
- Fulfill the company tool list requirements.
- Maintain and renew required certifications and licenses.
- Maintain assigned company vehicle and report to work at the job site.
- Abide by all company safety rules.
- Wear proper PPE while on the job site and in the yard for lifting operations to include safety‑toed work boots, safety vest, work gloves, and hard hat.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum five years combined experience as a groundsman, construction technician I, or construction technician II. Equivalent related construction or electrical experience may be substituted.
- Operate and perform basic field maintenance on all equipment including aerial lift/bucket trucks, trenchers, derrick/digger trucks, cranes, backhoes, trackhoes, air compressors, and concrete saws.
- Operate gas torches (cutting and brazing).
- Proficient with basic and specialized hand tools and power tools.
- Familiar with MUTCD, NEC, CDOT, local specifications and standards, customer and project‑specific specifications and standards.
- Read plans and schematic diagrams proficiently.
- Computer skills.
- Programming and setting up controllers, conflict monitors/MMUs, video detection, and communications equipment.
- Traffic signal wiring.
- Supervise others efficiently, problem‑solve, and make proper decisions.
- Perform heavy physical work, often under adverse weather conditions.
- Follow and transmit clear written and verbal instructions.
- Communicate effectively with co‑workers, supervisors, and the public.
- Maintain an effective working relationship with others.
- Maintain a valid medical card if you have a CDL driver’s license.
- Be insurable.
- Complete OSHA 30‑hour training and be a “Competent Person.”
- Hazard Communications/MSDS, CPR, First Aid, Blood‑borne Pathogens, Hantavirus, respiratory protection.
- Bucket truck/aerial lift and fall protection.
- Trencher, excavation, and utility damage prevention.
- Crane and rigging/material handling.
- IMSA traffic signal Level II construction certification and Level II field technician certification or journeyman electrician license with appropriate related experience.
- Work in all weather conditions.
- Work at heights over 20 feet.
- Lift/move up to 50 pounds.
