Principal or Sr Principal Quantum Simulation Developer

Join Northrop Grumman as a Principal or Sr Principal Quantum Simulation Developer.

We are seeking a physicist with a robust software engineering background to develop, implement, and maintain simulation tools for superconducting qubits and superconducting electronics.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop custom simulation frameworks and models for novel experiments on superconducting devices.
• Debug existing simulation tools and support implementation of new capabilities.
• Support the current and future development of simulation tools within function, cost, and schedule constraints.
• Analyze simulation results on superconducting qubits.
• Mentor less experienced staff to help them learn software development skills.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with 5 years of relevant experience;
  Master's degree in STEM related field with 3 years' of relevant technical experience OR Masters’ degree in STEM related field and currently enrolled in a PhD program with a completion date prior to start with 1 year of relevant technical experience OR PhD in STEM related field with 1 year of relevant technical experience.
• Experience with physics-based simulations.
• Experience developing models to understand experimental results.
• Experience in a collaborative software development environment.
• Familiarity with software best practices and development lifecycle.
• Proficiency writing code in Python.
• This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. Citizen.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance per business requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

• PhD in theoretical physics, electrical engineering, or a STEM related field.
• Experience writing in a version-controlled, OOP-based codebase in Python.
• Experience with code parallelization in an HPC environment.
• Experience with code review.
• Leadership experience working on a scientific research team.
• Experience with codebase design and architecture.
• Active U.S. Government security clearance.
