Principal or Sr Principal Quantum Simulation Developer
Join Northrop Grumman as a Principal or Sr Principal Quantum Simulation Developer.
We are seeking a physicist with a robust software engineering background to develop, implement, and maintain simulation tools for superconducting qubits and superconducting electronics.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop custom simulation frameworks and models for novel experiments on superconducting devices.
- Debug existing simulation tools and support implementation of new capabilities.
- Support the current and future development of simulation tools within function, cost, and schedule constraints.
- Analyze simulation results on superconducting qubits.
- Mentor less experienced staff to help them learn software development skills.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with 5 years of relevant experience;
Master's degree in STEM related field with 3 years' of relevant technical experience OR Masters’ degree in STEM related field and currently enrolled in a PhD program with a completion date prior to start with 1 year of relevant technical experience OR PhD in STEM related field with 1 year of relevant technical experience. - Experience with physics-based simulations.
- Experience developing models to understand experimental results.
- Experience in a collaborative software development environment.
- Familiarity with software best practices and development lifecycle.
- Proficiency writing code in Python.
- This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. Citizen.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance per business requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in theoretical physics, electrical engineering, or a STEM related field.
- Experience writing in a version-controlled, OOP-based codebase in Python.
- Experience with code parallelization in an HPC environment.
- Experience with code review.
- Leadership experience working on a scientific research team.
- Experience with codebase design and architecture.
- Active U.S. Government security clearance.
