Overview
At the direction of Management, the Project Accountant will be responsible for submitting timely and accurate project billings, reconciling jobs, communicating with clients, and organizing subs monthly. The Project Accountant will be responsible for projects from startup through final financial close out. As a vital member of our team, we require an individual who can quickly assume responsibility, take charge of projects, and meet 41 North Contractors’ standards.
Duties & Responsibilities- This position will be based out of our Lisle office and is not a remote/hybrid position. 100% in office requirement.
- Organize and drive project managers to ensure accurate financial job-cost sheets and prepare monthly billings for the owner or bank.
- Collaborate with project managers to understand project financials and provide insights into potential billing or collection challenges.
- Responsible for the processing, reviewing, tracking and maintenance of all payment applications from subcontractors.
- Assist project managers with correctly tracking change orders for clients and subcontractors.
- Communicate with clients to ensure payment applications are approved and provide any necessary follow-up paperwork. Answer any questions clients may have regarding billings.
- Communicate with title companies to ensure all proper paperwork has been provided for funding.
- Manage billing and collections processes for assigned projects, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Contribute to the overall improvement of project accounting procedures and systems.
- Proactively identify and resolve discrepancies, errors, or issues related to project accounting.
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting and project accounting for construction jobs.
- Must be proficient at Excel.
- Must be knowledgeable in AIA Documents: G702/7030, sworn statement, and waivers.
- Must be able to put together AIA Documents manually.
- Solid management and organizational skills and ability to work under limited supervision.
- Ability to correspond effectively both in writing and orally.
- Excellent problem-solving skills. Take the initiative to ask questions and get the ball rolling to find the solution.
- Ability to learn and understand new accounting systems required by clients in order to upload our payment application (examples include, Vista Spectrum, Lucernex and Procore)
- Spectrum experience is a plus.
- BS in Accounting or Finance
- 5+ Years experience in General Contractor billings
- Strong applicable math skills
- Excellent communication and time-management skills
- Commercial/Contractor Construction experience required.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task
- Demonstrates the ability to be a team player and function in a fast-paced, changing environment.
