A Day in the Life of a Mechanical Engineer at Hanson

As a key player in our team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, analyzing, and optimizing HVAC systems for a variety of settings, ensuring energy efficiency and compliance with all applicable codes and standards.
  • Developing comprehensive plans, specifications, and drawings for HVAC and plumbing systems, focusing on critical details such as ductwork, piping layouts, equipment selection, and sizing calculations.
  • Conducting site visits to evaluate existing HVAC and plumbing systems, pinpointing deficiencies, and recommending cost-effective upgrades or replacements.
  • Performing thorough facilities condition assessments, particularly for government and military facilities, with a strong focus on HVAC and plumbing systems.
  • Collaborating seamlessly with architects, contractors, and various stakeholders to integrate mechanical systems into building designs and renovation projects.
  • Utilizing advanced computer-aided design (CAD) software and simulation tools to model and simulate HVAC and plumbing systems.
  • Preparing detailed written reports and presentations that summarize your findings, recommendations, and project progress for various stakeholders.
  • Providing accurate cost estimates using industry-standard cost estimation databases.
  • Staying updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes affecting HVAC and plumbing systems.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time as required.
What We're Looking For

To thrive in this role, we believe the following qualifications will set you up for success:

Education/Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in the consulting professional services industry, focusing on Mechanical Engineering.
  • Active licensure as a professional engineer.
Skills
  • Proven technical experience in the preparation of HVAC and plumbing construction drawings, specifications, submittal reviews, and construction administration.
  • Experience conducting facilities condition assessments for HVAC and plumbing systems.
  • Strong understanding of relevant building codes, standards, and regulations pertaining to mechanical systems (e.g., ASHRAE, International Mechanical Code).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and REVIT software packages.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and assume leadership responsibilities while guiding CAD/Revit technicians and other engineers/designers.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with energy analysis tools, such as Com Check and FLACOM Energy Gauge, along with load calculation software like Trane Trace 700 or similar applications.
  • Preferred candidates should have the capability to obtain a Top-Secret clearance, though this is not required.

The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $145,000 annually, with potential eligibility for annual discretionary bonuses.
