Position SummaryThe Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the accounting function, ensuring accurate financial records, timely reporting, strong internal controls, and plays an integral role in the CGO customer experience. This role leads and develops the accounting team, manages the monthly close process, and supports audits, compliance, and financial reporting activities.
Additionally, the Accounting Manager plays a key role in strengthening processes, identifying automation opportunities and implementing solutions, and providing financial insight to internal stakeholders. This position requires a hands‑on leader who combines technical accounting expertise with strong organizational and people‑management skills.
What You Will Be Doing- Manage, coach, and develop direct and indirect accounting team members
- Provide day‑to‑day guidance, workload prioritization, and performance feedback
- Support goal setting, reviews, and ongoing development in partnership with the CFO
- Act as the first escalation point for accounting‑related questions and issues
- Oversee daily bookkeeping activities and transaction reviews
- Lead the monthly financial close process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and completeness
- Prepare interim operational reports for internal stakeholders across all functions
- Review reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting documentation
- Review monthly financial statements and prepare variance explanations for leadership review
- Maintain and enhance entity‑level controls to ensure consistency and compliance
- Document, implement, and improve accounting policies and procedures
- Support internal and external audits (financial statements, 401(k), and related reviews)
- Ensure proper documentation and adherence to internal control standards (NACHA, etc)
- Review daily banking activity, ACH transactions, and approvals
- Monitor cash flow, account balances, and funding needs
- Assist with banking relationships and treasury‑related inquiries
- Provide oversight and support for payroll tax coordination and related inquiries
- Manage producer commission processes, reporting, and reconciliations
- Review and approve producer expense reimbursements
- Ensure accurate reporting and alignment with commission and expense policies
- Support budget‑to‑actual reviews and weekly/monthly reporting
- Prepare management reports and financial summaries for internal stakeholders
- Assist with sales, producer, and expense reporting as needed
- Participate in special projects, financial analysis, and process improvements
- Support vendor management, contract reviews, and spend oversight
- Coordinate with IT and Finance systems partners on accounting‑related tools and software
- Participate in ongoing system improvements and process automation initiatives
- Serve as the primary Finance point of contact for operational accounting matters
- Attend standing internal and vendor meetings as needed
- Support leadership with ad hoc requests, problem‑solving, and operational needs
- Participate in client‑facing meetings related to billing, payroll, or financial inquiries when required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
- 7-10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including people leadership
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial close, and accounting operations
- Experience with client support, supporting audits, payroll, commissions, and expense processes
- Public Accounting experience preferred
- Prior experience in professional services, insurance, or multi‑entity environments preferred
- Proven ability to lead and develop accounting teams
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
- Clear, confident communicator with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
