Position: Transportation Planner 1

Job Description

  • Gathers, compiles and analyzes transportation data, including traffic counters and flow data, to create basic complexity modeling for existing and proposed transportation systems such as roads, bridges, highways, tunnels, and tolls.
  • Reviews existing models and recommends improvements or changes as necessary.
  • Leverages transportation systems, models, simulations and data to prepare basic complexity studies of existing or proposed transportation systems.
  • Creates transportation surveys, exhibits, and other meeting materials as needed to identify areas of public concern and facilitate public and stakeholder input.
  • Leads and performs traffic count and safety studies.
  • Reviews proposed transportation project sites for alignment with draft designs and plans.
  • Reviews transportation plans for compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws, and escalates any legal compliance issues as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Collaborates with engineers to research, analyze, or resolve transportation conceptual and schematic design issues.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Urban, Community, or Regional Planning or a related discipline.
  • 0 or more years of related experience; equivalent additional directly related experience is considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required, with the frequency contingent on specific duties and project demands.
Skills and Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by all transportation modes, and an understanding of current transportation trends and issues.
  • Basic knowledge of government regulations and agency rules.
  • Basic knowledge of the practical application of regional and community planning, including applying principles, techniques, procedures, models, and equipment to study and design the movement of people, goods, and services.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.

Pay Range: $60,798 – $100,298
