Senior Director, Transportation

Position Summary

Senior Director, Transportation – responsible for leading logistics and transportation operations, aligning them with company goals, crafting forward‑thinking strategies, managing budgets, leading a talented team, and driving operational excellence.

• Develop and implement transportation strategies that align with overall business goals, analyze market trends, and forecast future transportation needs.
• Implement and leverage technology solutions (e.g., GPS tracking, route optimization software) and stay updated on technological advancements.
• Manage day‑to‑day transportation operations, including fleet management, route planning, and delivery schedules, ensuring compliance with regulations and industry standards.
• Build cross‑functional teams and utilize data and KPIs to drive efficiency, reduce costs, and innovate.
• Lead and mentor a team of transportation managers and staff; foster a collaborative, performance‑driven environment.
• Plan, monitor, and manage the transportation budget, including cost control, financial forecasting, and identifying cost‑saving opportunities.
• Partner with procurement to negotiate and manage relationships with third‑party carriers, logistics providers, and suppliers; oversee contract management and SLAs.
• Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through on‑time and accurate shipments, addressing transportation issues and performing root‑cause analysis.
• Lead organizational change initiatives related to transportation and logistics, including technology upgrades and process improvements.
• Maintain strong vendor and partner relationships, ensuring contractual obligations are met.

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field, and 12+ years of relevant experience (or equivalent education and experience).
• At least 5 years of leadership experience, including team development and management.
• Proven track record in leading large teams and complex transportation operations.
• In‑depth knowledge of transportation management, fleet management, route optimization, and logistics coordination.
• Expertise in integrating transportation strategies within broader supply chain functions.
• Strong negotiation skills and experience managing relationships with third‑party carriers and logistics providers.
• Experience managing private and dedicated fleets and improving operational KPIs such as asset utilization, driver optimization, and fuel management.
• Experience with refrigerated supply chain and short‑shelf‑life product handling.
• Additional qualifications that add value: MBA, Master’s in Supply Chain Management, Lean Six Sigma, freight brokerage experience.

• Pay range: $200,000 – $242,500 annually.
