This role is part of a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers who collaborate across AWS to deliver safety, security, and capacity at the lowest cost.

Responsibilities
  • Provide full life-cycle support to AWS data centers from design inception through site improvement and maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot, conduct root cause analysis, and create corrective action documentation for site/equipment failures.
  • Support operational issues with ad‑hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, and event support.
  • Own conceptual design for existing data center upgrades and design solutions that add capacity, improve availability, increase efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Interface with internal teams—data center operations, design engineering, server hardware, and environmental health and safety—to promote consistent and reliable service standards.
  • Develop innovative solutions for AWS data centers.
  • Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
  • Initiate and lead engineering audits, including on‑site visits, and produce reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediations.
  • Serve as resident engineer during new construction projects, supporting construction, commissioning, and turnover.
Role Overview

As an Amazon Critical Infrastructure Engineer, you will lead projects to fit out data centers to meet evolving customer needs as the fleet expands to hyper‑scale. You will be the go‑to engineering resource for your region, providing technical advice and engaging with diverse teams.

Key Candidate Qualities

  • Excellent communication, writing skills, attention to detail, and ability to set priorities and meet deadlines and budget.
  • Leadership and problem‑solving skills.
  • Detail- and data‑oriented.
  • Experience solving problems with engineered solutions.
  • Experience managing engineering projects and consultants.
  • Ability to build trust and relationships with stakeholders such as Operations, Controls, Construction, Design, Commissioning, Product Managers, and Technical Program Managers.
  • Adaptable and willing to work in the field.
  • Excited about a mix of office and field work.
A Day In The Life

You will interact with different teams responsible for all aspects of the data centers, prioritizing activities to support capacity, availability, and safety. You will have opportunities to work on local and global projects.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Valid and active driver's license.
  • 3+ cumulative years of experience with industrial, municipal, or commercial engineering, including but not limited to data centers, power generation, or oil/gas facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a resident engineer or hands‑on design consultant or owner’s engineer.
  • Ability to carry design concepts from exploration and development through deployment or mass production.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical and/or electrical equipment and design related to data centers (e.g., uninterruptible power supplies, diesel generators, switch gear, power distribution units, variable frequency drives, transfer switches, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, fans, economizers, water treatment).
